One of the aspects of recovering artificial turf from sportsfields is that we get to turn them into something new again. This is a pride point for ReTurf and we want to talk about some of the great upcycling ideas we have come across with artificial turf!

Go Green With A Greener Lawn

One of the most popular ways to utilize used artificial turf is as a lawn grass replacement. This idea allows users to turn otherwise dead areas into green lawns. But on a “greener” note, these lawns require no water and very little maintenance. We also get to avoid utilizing fertilizers and other chemicals that run-off into our water table.

Modern artificial grasses are not what they used to be. These products have soft blades, a cushioned layer (called “root zone”), and realistic coloring that makes them look and feel great. The colors do not fade over time and clean-up is a breeze.

Lastly, concrete areas, rooftops, and even indoor gyms can all utilize artificial turf for a realistic approach to creating a green lawn area in places never considered before!

Get Creative

Artificial grass isn’t just for floors. There have been numerous creative uses stumbled upon while browsing the internet. Everything from wall art to furniture has incorporated used artificial turf. It is a product that lasts a long time, feels great, and is offered at an affordable price point.

In France, there are two companies that dove deep into alternative uses for artificial turf.

Company Marron Rouge has created stools, chairs, and benches that have creatively utilized synthetic turf as the contact surface for your bum. This makes for a soft landing and a unique green design. Their products are a mix of natural wood and this turf material that creates a truly unique and organic look.

The next French company, Reversible, has created unique lighting fixtures, unique cushioned cubes for floor seating, placemats, and more – all from upcycled artificial turf. They are a brand that concentrates on upcycling many materials, but came across used turf in their travels and went for it.

Whether as a use for leftovers from your turf project or to open an upcycling Etsy store – used turf has many creative uses that are easy to deploy. The sky is truly the limit, but to get the creative juices flowing, here are some ideas:
