Building a simple play area on a concrete porch becomes a little more user-friendly when we add recovered artificial turf to the materials list. This project is pretty straightforward (as pictured), a customer used a remnant piece of recovered sports turf to build a little play oasis for a young child. A kiddie pool, some toys, and a piece of turf come together to make an area that is soft underfoot, offers some cushion if the little person falls, and offers reactions as things get wet.

Artificial Turf from Sports Feilds is an excellent choice for many reasons, but in this case, we will focus on the durability and drainage characteristics the most. This surface can easily handle playtime, even wet, without degrading.  As a matter of fact, many users utilize this turf for pet play areas and there will be little concern that your little person will inflict any sort of damage during regular play. This turf has draining holes in the backing to allow water to flow through. The other aspect concerning this application is that this turf product will not rot or degrade even after extreme exposure to the elements (water included).

This is a low-cost way to create a comfortable and safe play area for your little one- even on top of concrete. For added safety, you could layer some foam rubber panels underneath the turf as well.
